Grandma Marie passed away 3 years ago last week. Here are some of my sweet memories of her:
Eating vanilla ice cream with raspberries picked from her bushes as a bedtime snack, as she tells me stories of her dating days with Grandma Herb
Her making dresses with me and trying to teach me how to sew
Her patiently teaching me how to paint with acrylics, particularly wood boxes and heart shaped ornaments
How she enjoyed the children's singing. She loved to listen to the songs we recorded and ohhed and ahhed over the kids singing any song. She had my CD in her CD player when she died.
Grandma hosting Thanksgiving and Easter at her house, all piling into the dining room, then helping with handwashing the dishes afterwards.
How she could get any stain out of her clothes
How she loved getting us Norwegian things, decorations, jewelrey, cooking supplies.
She loved lilac purple and organic foods.
She sent me lemon tea and dried ginger when I was sick in college, and lots of cookies
How I made her write out the Yulekaga recipe by forcing her to measure at every step. She didn't appreciate that.
Her calling to warn me about the latest health concerns toted by Oprah
Her wonderful bearded pastor at her church, watching her sing in the choir and meals at her church.
Singing in her church and her treating me like I was a celebrity
Watching fireworks over the lake across the street from her house.
Being treated to dinner from Bona Casa and the Tower House and getting treats from DQ and Louie's.
